Now that I've driven off all six of my readers, I'm back.

Gaming-wise, things have generally been of the D&D variety.  I ran my third D&D with the kids game over Thanksgiving weekend, and our Tuesday night game is still in full swing, heading towards the momentous conclusion.  It looks like a completely different group of local gamers I know are starting up a Warhammer Fantasy 3rd edition game and I'm currently planning on joining that.  I've never played any version of WFRP, so I'm looking forward to it.  I also still have two games to prepare for OwlCon.

I think I can safely declare my Champions group dead.  This is due as much to my own lack of effort as other people's schedule issues.  One of my players got very involved in competitive Magic tournaments, and now that WizKids has managed to return from the dead, most of the other folks are looking to play HeroClix on their weekends.  Given all that's on my plate at the moment, it's probably for the best.

Of course, that hasn't stopped me from picking up and looking at new stuff.  Most recently, I've been reading BASH! Ultimate Edition, a really neat rules-light superhero game.  For a long time now, my favorite approach to superhero games is in the context of an animated series, like "Justice League" or "Teen Titans," and while I've done quite well running games in that fashion using the HERO System, I've found the rules crunch really gets in the way of the experience.  On the other hand, ultra-rules-light systems like Truth & Justice lack a certain degree of rigor I find necessary given my own GMing style and the play styles of my groups.  On the basis of a first read-through, BUE might well fit the bill.  It's a point-build game, but quite rules light in its approach.  Hopefully, this weekend will allow me a chance to write up a could of characters and stage a test-combat.

I also discovered that Golden Heroes, an 80s era superhero game published by Games Workshop (before they became All-Warhammer-All-The-Time) lives on in PDF form as Squadron UK.  It's still a mid-80s mess, full of disconnected subsystems and rules for things that don't need rules, but there are some glorious gems in it and it was well worth picking up to revisit them.

So, that's that.  If you're still reading this, what have you been doing, gaming-wise?

I know a lot of people are hating on WH 3rd edition, but I look forward to hearing how it plays. It sure looks pretty.

Sorry about the Champions game going south. I know how that goes. Our Labyrinth Lord is down to 2 players and myself. I think we may have to switch to 4e in order to attract enough players to remain a viable group.

Keep on keepin' on.

Still running my group through Revenge of the Giants, and still having trouble trying to hit the right note between "too easy" and TPK--the party has six characters, at roughly the right level for each encounter, but the Ranger and Fighter do an ungodly amount of damage (and the Ranger has an unbelievable knack for rolling 20s--she rolled three in a row *after she was blinded*), so any Solos get dealt with easily.

Finished the pulp game & am waiting for the editing to be done with that. Am gearing up to write the steampunk Boxer Rebellion game, which will probably end up being a supers game after all.

Still stalled, roleplaying-wise. I lack a critical mass of disparate friends to draw them together for a regular game -- and a suitable place to play. I tried Pathfinder Society a couple weeks ago. It wasn't bad, but I haven't taken the time to generate a character of my own for a second session.

I recently met a GM who's very enthusiastic about getting a game of his own up and running, but I've been inexplicably struck by a case of reticence to meet a new group of people.

(Following vis RSS reader, so I never leave. :) )

D&D gaming is up! Playing a semi-regular campaign with my Thursday Guys Night crew. Also played my first session of Living Forgotten Realms a couple of weeks back. Some of my friends who were RPGA-apathetic before have really gotten into it. Seeing as Living Greyhawk was the most 3.5 play I did and the end of that edition's lifecycle, this is positive.

Also played in a one-off session of Kobolds Ate My Baby a few months ago. It was big fun. Trying to convince a friend to run a Paranoia game he's been tinkering with for a long while, ever since we found a set that was presumed lost and gone forever.

Otherwise, my gaming has been of the non-RPG variety: "Euro" board games, Card games of both collectible and non-collectible varities. Well, and video games which is my top gaming outlet these days, depending on how wide you want to cast your "gaming" net.

However, overall, gaming is down because my wife works evenings now. More responsibility with the household in the evenings and I can't make every Thursday night.

I've dabbled a little in the new Heroclix set just to get the Agents Of Atlas figs. And The Woman and I are going to do regular Board Game Fridays with another couple. I played my very first game of Settlers Of Cataan and had a great time. Future Fridays will include Illuminati, Epidemic, and other offbeat games.

I'm also parting with a ton of RPG books. As much as I enjoy reading them, I'm tired--so very, very tired--of shelves cluttered with books I will never, ever use.
