I think it's worth noting that the extra work the players and GM put into preparation for last night's game certainly paid off.  It was a massive combat encounter, but tactically interesting, and it never felt like a slog.  While I wish a spreadsheet full of buffs wasn't needed, we were able to keep track of all the modifiers in a fairly seamless manner.

Also, I still can't look at the new D&D minis Aboleths and think of anything but an fishing lure on a base.

Yeah... the new series of D&D minis are being designed using 3d rendering programs instead of actual sculptures, and I don't mind telling you, they're looking more cartoony than ever.
